Advisory focused on consequential enterprise decisions.

In Position is an advisory firm focused on the consequential strategic decisions that shape enterprise strength and value. We work with owners, CEOs, and leadership teams to clarify what matters, concentrate scarce resources where they can create the greatest consequence, build durable advantage, and preserve the freedom to choose what comes next.

Advisory is what we do. We don’t sell products or use advice to create demand for another line of business. Our focus is helping clients make better decisions for the enterprise and its owners.

Smaller private equity firms, independent sponsors, and portfolio-company leaders are a natural secondary audience.

Where We Advise

Walt Gilligan founded In Position after more than twenty years working across strategy, operations, M&A, transformation, and value creation.

His experience has given him a broad view of how enterprise value is created, strengthened—and lost. He has worked with healthy companies pursuing growth, businesses integrating acquisitions, founder-led companies preparing for transition, and companies navigating significant financial and operational distress.

Earlier in his career, Walt worked at PwC and FTI Consulting on complex restructuring and distressed-company engagements for leading private equity firms, financial institutions, and other stakeholders. That experience provided an early lesson in the relationship between enterprise strength and optionality: as financial and operating performance deteriorates, choices narrow—and increasingly belong to someone else.

He later built and led a fifteen-person transformation team at Accenture, directing post-acquisition integration and value realization across a corporate portfolio representing more than $1 billion in acquisitions.

More recently, Walt has advised founder-led and middle-market companies on growth strategy, value creation, and transaction readiness across manufacturing, technology, consumer products, professional services, and other industries. His work has included building growth and go-to-market strategies, confronting underperforming businesses and investments, strengthening enterprise capabilities, and preparing companies and leadership teams for future ownership transitions.

Walt began his career as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer, leading a mechanized infantry platoon in Germany with the 1st Armored Division.

In Position brings those experiences together: helping owners and leadership teams make consequential decisions while they still have the freedom to choose.

Three services. Combined around what you actually need.

Each is a complete engagement on its own. Many clients draw on two or three together, shaped around a single strategic question — not a menu to choose one item from.

Enterprise value is not created only at a transaction. It accumulates through the choices made along the way. If you’re facing one of them, we’d welcome the conversation.
